Juglandales

All the species in this order are trees and their flowers are usually in catkins.
   Juglandaceae - Walnut Family
butternutThere are about 42 species in this family. The male  flowers or staminate are in catkins. The female flowers or pistillates are usually single flowers. This family of plants is pollinated by the wind. The fruit is a nut. Most of the species are found in temperate zones of the Northern Hemisphere.
