NHPTV Internship Program

During the period, December 1, 2008 – November 30, 2009 NHPTV employed 2 student interns. In most cases the internships are part-time and take place during the school year although some full-time summer internship opportunities may exist for the right applicant.

Criteria

It is recommended that students seeking internships at NHPTV be college students pursuing a degree. However, high school students will be considered on an individual basis. Students must have a strong commitment to the internship experience and be planning to pursue or be pursuing a degree in communications, broadcasting, public relations, development, business, political science, journalism, education or other related fields. Students must be able to work a minimum of 12 hours per week.

NHPTV Interns may be involved in the following areas:

Communications
Information Technology
Production
Programming

Web

How to apply:
Individuals may obtain an internship application online, by calling 603-868-1100 or by writing to:

Internship Program
New Hampshire Public Television

Durham, NH 03824

An internship application and a letter of interest including a brief summary of education/experience are required. The department hiring manager will review applications, schedule interviews and hire, as appropriate.

NHPTV Mentor Program

NHPTV created the Staff Mentor Program to help with the important transitional period for a new employee. A staff mentor is there to help during the critical first 6 months of employment at NHPTV. A mentor is normally from outside the immediate working group, and has volunteered to help a new employee get accustomed to the working environment. It may mean just answering questions or perhaps helping to introduce those people at NHPTV who are expert in an activity or matter they are interested in or concerned about.

During the last reporting period NHPTV assigned four mentors to two full time and three part time staff members hired from December 2008 - November 2009. The mentors were selected according to their knowledge of  NHPTV, length of service, area of expertise, and organizational status in relation to the new hires. The program has been very successful. The mentors are equipped to orient the new staff members to the culture of the organization while the staff member's supervisor orients them to the departments in which they work.

Scholarship Program

The Charter Charitable Foundation, in coordination with New Hampshire Public Television, established a Scholarship Program for undergraduate students pursuing a baccalaureate degree in a communications / media related field. The intent of the scholarship is to invest in the future of quality media and communications by supporting a student who demonstrates the potential to be successful in this profession, especially in the field of public broadcasting. The Scholarship program is open to students who have completed the equivalent of two years of study in a baccalaureate degree program and achieved junior year status in a communications / media related major. Students must be matriculated full time at an accredited four-year institution in New Hampshire and submit a letter of reference from an instructor or Academic Advisor as part of their application submission.

NHPTV participated in the Charter Charitable foundation Scholarship Program in 2009 in the following manner:

•  Established the criteria for the scholarship application.

•  Helped promote the Program via NHPTV's web site by way of an event webpage, e-newsletter, e-blast, banquet invitations and written notification to area colleges.

•  Made Scholarship Program applications available to interested applicants.

•  Acted as a collection site for completed Scholarship Program applications.

•  Prepared applications for review by the scholarship selection committee.

•  Participated in the evaluation process for the applicants by ranking them on a number of qualifiers and provided recommendations to the scholarship / selection committee upon completion.

•  Hosted a luncheon acknowledging the scholarship award and presented award to the scholarship winner.
