Barbara Walters; Lincoln Brigade

Aired Sunday, Jun 1, 2008
Watch Program Online using RealPlayer     Barbara Walters; Lincoln Brigade - NH Outlook

Barbara Walters
There's a new book out about Barbara Walters. Audition is a memoir about her private life and professional career as a journalist. Walters was in Portsmouth on May 23rd to take part in the "Writers on a New England Stage" program at The Music Hall. The event got cut short when The Music Hall had to be evacuated after a shift in the balcony, but NH Outlook's Beth Carroll had the opportunity to talk with Walters before the event. They discussed her early days as a journalist, her favorite interview, why she wanted to write a memoir and more.

Lincoln Brigade
NH Outlook first brought this story to you seven years ago. In 2001, a state lawmaker arranged to have a commemorative plaque hung at the State House honoring the Lincoln Brigade. They were 3,000 Americans, including 11 from New Hampshire, who fought against fascists in the Spanish Civil War from 1936 to 1939. The plaque caused a storm of protests from legislators and veterans and was quickly taken down. Seven years later the state senator has helped to honor the Lincoln Brigade, but it required a trip to California. NH Outlook's Richard Ager has details of the controversy in New Hampshire and highlights from the San Francisco ceremony.

NH Outlook will not be seen Monday, 6/2 and Tuesday, 6/3 to make way for NHPTV's special membership drive. Please watch and pledge your support to help keep programs like NH Outlook going strong. Thank you.
