Heart Safe Communities
Did you know a simple device could save your life if your heart stops beating? The chances of surviving an out-of-hospital sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) are only five-percent, but a portable defibrillator could make the difference between life and death. There are efforts underway in New Hampshire to improve the survival odds of SCA victims. NH Outlook's Phil Vaughn explains how communities across the state could be considered "heart safe" if they are equipped with portable defibrillators.

Good Morning America's Robin Roberts
Robin Roberts speaks to millions of morning television viewers as one of the main anchors of ABC's Good Morning America program. Roberts was in Manchester last month to address the first Women's Leadership Summit at Southern NH University. She's also written a new book entitled, "From the Heart: Seven Rules To Live By." Roberts spoke with NH Outlook host Beth Carroll about her new book, her personal battle with breast cancer and life as an early morning anchor.

"From the Heart: Seven Rules To Live By" By Robin Roberts
1. Position yourself to take the shot. I'm a big believer that you have to put yourself in position for good things to happen to you.
2. Dream big, but focus small. Keep your eye on what you can do.
3. If at first you don't succeed, dive back in.
4. Never play the race, gender, or any other card. Give people the benefit of the doubt. My folks never let any of their children use gender or race as an excuse for not achieving something.
5. Venture outside your comfort zone. You've got to leave yourself open to the hidden opportunities of life.
6. Focus on the solution, not the problem. Most people waste so much time on a problem, they don't have any energy left to focus on the solution.
7. Keep faith, family, and friends close to your heart.

Decision to Die
What happens to someone who drinks, drives and kills someone in a car accident? NH Outlook asked Kevin Kurowski of Claremont that question a year ago. Wheelchair-bound after the crash, Kurowski regretted the choice he made to drink and drive and told his story to anyone who would listen, especially young people. Last May Kurowski took his own life, unable to bear his burden. Kurowski's mother explains to NH Outlook's Adam Donovan why her son ended his life and what others should learn from his passing.
