Good Nutrition Made Easy
The U.S. obesity rate makes news headlines almost daily. Over the past two decades Americans grew, and grew. Nearly thirty percent of us are now overweight or obese. Educating parents and children about exercise and eating well is a good way to start slimming those numbers down. Dietician Eileen Behan spends a lot of time working with families on managing their weight. And as NH Outlook's Phil Vaughn found out, her approach to lifelong, healthy eating begins at infancy.
Nutrition on a Budget
Good eating habits can begin at an early age. For many families, however, proper nutrition seems like an expensive undertaking. Curiosity got the best of NH Outlook’s Beth Carroll as to whether young teens can buy, prepare and then enjoy a healthy meal -- all without breaking the bank. She takes the challenge to a middle school class in Durham.
Living with Food Allergies
For most kids, a peanut butter sandwich and a glass of milk is a healthy snack. But for a growing number of children that snack could be fatal. The reason is food allergies, which now affect an estimated 4% of all children, and can result in death. NH Outlook's Richard Ager spoke with a leading allergist about treatments. He also went food shopping with one family to better understand how they deal with their child's allergies. As you will see, it goes far beyond knowing what is safe to put on a plate.
