Tenth Annual Reading Rainbow Contest

Spikes

I walked home with the lizard, hoping to keep him. When I got home I asked my mother if I could keep him. She said I could keep him, but if I didn’t take care of him I couldn’t have him. That night I named the lizard Spikes. I named him spikes because he had forty seven spikes. The next day I went to the pet store. On the front door a sign said, “Sign up for the baby lizard competition.” I ran into the store and asked the owner, “If you win the lizard competition, what will you win?” He said, “You will win the things to take care of a lizard and a three foot cage.” I bought some food for Spikes. Then I went home wondering if I could train Spikes to do tricks.
