NH WAR STORIES: STUDENT DOCUMENTARY PROJECT

SUBMISSION RULES AND GUIDELINES

Entries may be submitted from September 1, 2007 through February 28, 2008.

Eligibility Requirements:

Applicants must be enrolled in grades 6-college. Home-schooled students are also eligible. All entries from students under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a registration form signed by a parent or guardian.

Films may be submitted by individual students, groups of students, or by a class.

The competition is divided into two divisions:
Division I: grades 6 - 8; and Division II: grades 9 -college.
Each division will be judged separately.

In addition to the entry form, each entry must be accompanied by a 50-100 word synopsis of the film, a list of individuals interviewed, and a list of individuals who worked on the film. Each entry must also include signed permission forms from all individuals featured in the film; this will allow NHPTV to post the film on the web. All forms are available at www.nhptv.org/kn/thewar.

Parents, guardians, teachers, and other adults may work with students on the films in a consulting capacity, but the student applicant(s) must have prime artistic responsibility for the films submitted. Roles considered to have prime artistic responsibility are director, producer, writer, interviewer, host, videographer, and editor. Teachers may submit a work on behalf of a class as long as the class had prime artistic responsibility for the work.

Film Guidelines:

All films must be 5-20 minutes in length and must include a title screen and credits for all materials used in the film and for all students who worked on the film.

All films must include at least one oral history interview with an individual affected by war.

Film Format:

Any shooting format may be used to produce the original film. Films may be submitted on VHS or in the following formats: REAL .rm; Windows Media .wmv; Quicktime .mov; .qt; Audio Video Interleave (AVI) .avi, or Digital Video .dv.; Moving Pictures Expert Group (MPEG) .mpg, .mpeg, .m1v .mp2, or .mp4.

Digital entries can be submitted by FTP or by mail on CD or DVD. Do not send original copies to NHPTV.
NHPTV will not be responsible for damage to films resulting from shipping, handling, judging, or screening.

Rights:

By signing the entry form, the applicant(s) certifies that the exhibition of the submitted entry will in no way violate any copyright laws or any other rights of any person, film, or corporation.

Submitted films become the property of NHPTV and may be used on-air, on the web, CD, DVD, or in any other medium. These rights given to NHPTV do not limit the use of the film by the submitting student(s).

Judging:

Entries will be judged by a panel of media professionals and educators selected by NHPTV. Entries will be judged on originality, technical quality, and creativity. Certificates of Achievement will be issued to all individuals submitting a film.

A first, second, and third place film will be chosen in each division. The students and teachers who worked on these films will be invited to a ceremony recognizing their achievement. These films will be posted on NHPTV’s website.
