Dicaeidae - flowerpeckers

There are over 40 species of birds in this family. They are found in tropical regions in southern Asia, Australia, and the South Pacific. They are tiny birds, about 3-4 inches in length. They have short tails and curved bills and eat nectar, berries, and insects. Most species are brown or olive in color, but the males of some species have brightly colored red or yellow patches on their crown, rump, and breast. These birds are solitary except for the mating season and spend most of their time in trees.
