Hemiptera - True Bugs

green stink  bugThere are around 35,000 species in this order. Hemiptera is Greek for "half wing." The base of the true bug's forewing is hardened! The species in this order are found throughout the world and they come in a wide-variety of shapes, sizes, and colors! True bugs also have a mouth with a segmented beak that they use for piercing and sucking. Most species of true bugs feed on plant juice. All of the species of true bugs, like all insects, have segmented bodies, antennae, and six legs. Species in this order include cicadas, leafhoppers, treehoppers, aphids, spittlebugs, stiltbugs, stinkbugs, mealybugs, and bedbugs.
