thripThere are around 4,500 species in this order and around 700 species in North America. Thrips are small insects, around 1/10 of an inch in length.

In some species, the adults have wings. In species with wings, the wings are thin and have a fringe of long filaments.

Most of the species in this order eat plant tissue and can cause damage to crops.
