Vertebrata - The Vertebrates

American BadgerAll vertebrates have a vertebral column. The vertebral column, or backbone, surrounds and protects the nerve cord. Vertebrates also have a well-developed brain, a pair of eyes, a circulatory system with a heart, a pharynx, and a mouth with muscles! Humans, birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, and fish are all vertebrates. There are seven living classes of vertebrates.

 Agnatha (jawless fish)
 Aves (birds)
 Amphibia (amphibians)
 Chondrichthyes (rays, sharks, skates)

   Mammalia (mammals)
 Osteichthyes (bony fish)
 Reptilia (reptiles)
