Before Viewing

Ask the students if the have ever though about running their own business. What types of businesses do they think they might like to run. After students have named some businesses have them identify who might be their potential customers and their competition.

During Viewing

Pause video at 1:29 after Roger explains that he choose hydroponic farming because he felt it would produce a unique product that no one else was providing. Ask the students if they can identify any local small businesses that cater to unique needs or offer unique products. Discuss some of the advantages and potential disadvantages of a business with a niche market.

After Viewing

Have students identify a business they would like to start. Have them identify their market and their product and then create a simple brochure to market their product or service.

Have students visit the Char-Belle Farm website and evaluate how Roger uses the site to promote his business. If Roger came to them for an evaluation of his site, what would they recommend he change, add, or eliminate from the site?
