Ruth was carried out of the car and pushed inside the door of the town hall. Mrs. Connors said, “Do it!” and shut the door and left. Ruth walked, staring at her feet, up to the arch decorated with evergreens and flowers. She was thinking, “We have to get this over with as soon as possible so I can go home.”
