"Did you hear something?" Jordan said as the waked past an alley.
"Yeah," Mason answered. "Let's go check it out."
As they crept into the dark, a tiny head popped out from an overturned can.
"Ooooooooooh, it's a puppy!" Mason squealed.
She leaned down to the pup, whispering words of comfort. Tensed muscles relaxed under its matted coat.
"Let's take him to your house and care for him, Jord! He won't be much trouble - and he's so thin! Can we, PLEASE???” Mason pleaded.
At Jordan's response, Mason jumped for joy.
