Make Music Anytime
It's easy to incorporate music in your daily life. Songs can liven any routine. During daily chores, meals, or transition times like waking up or going to bed, create a song. Use reminder words in a song format. For example, you may find yourself always prompting your child to wash their hands before meals. By singing familiar words, such as "Wash your hands," to the tune of "Row, Row, Row Your Boat," a never-ending reminder can turn into a fun habit.
Wash Your Hands
(Sung to the tune of Row, Row, Row Your Boat)
Wash, wash, wash your hands
Wash them nice and clean
Scrub your fingers, palm, and thumb
and even in between!
Songs don't always have to make sense. Sometimes the sillier the better! |
But I Can't Sing!
You don't have to sing! Music can be made using common household items. A kazoo can be manufactured by placing wax paper over a paper towel tube with a rubber band. A guitar is created by placing rubber bands across a shoebox with a hole cut in the center of its lid. You can even turn cartons and boxes into drums. Be creative! Test different items around your household and see what sounds they make. Playing homemade instruments to a favorite song can be a lot of fun. |

Music All Around
Music is all around us, and it is sometimes found in unusual places. Bird songs, the rhythmic pounding of a hammer, the humming of your refrigerator, the dripping of a faucet, the honking a car horn. All of these are examples of "music" in your everyday life.
